HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 790-0812no

I've started getting this problem with a specific microphone of mine. Whenever an app uses my headset microphone (doesn't matter how many apps) the CPU usage on the process ntoskrnl.exe goes up to 25%+. Any other microphone still works fine, (for example, my webcam mic) I've tried reinstalling the device, changing the settings, changing audio driver, searching for viruses. Still nothing, same problem still happens. I've googled through a lot of websites and all solutions don't help. Please help if you know what's going on.

Hey there! @EmK530,

Have tried checking with an external microphone does the issue persist?

Try updating the BIOS and audio drivers to the latest version and check if it helps.

Update the BIOS using this link. Click Here

Update the audio driver using this link. Click Here

Please try the steps mentioned below.

Disable All Sound Effects

Follow steps below:

1. Right-click on the speaker icon at the bottom right corner of desktop and select Playback devices.
2. In “Playback” tab, highlight Speakers item and click Properties.
3. Go to “Enhancements” tab. Tick the checkbox next to Disable all sound effects. Then click OK.

If you don’t see option “Disable all sound effects” in Speakers properties dialog box, go back to Sound dialog box and select other sound options probably like Microphone. Then disable the sound effects.

Also, Run Built-in Recoding Audio Troubleshooter

* Press Windows Key then type ‘troubleshoot’ and hit Enter

* Select “View all” on the left panel and run “Recording Audio” troubleshooter from the list and see if it works.

* Click on “Advanced” and then click on “Apply repair automatically”. Also, ensure to select Run as administrator.

* Click “Next” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

Lastly, if the issue still persists, it could be an issue with the microphone, please contact Microphone manufacturer for more assistance.

Hope this answers your query!

Have a great day! 🙂
