Hi, my HP printer works excellent apart of one problem with the app Microsoft Edge. There I always receive the error message: "On your printer occurred an unexpected configuration issue. 0x80040154 (see below). Please note. When I open the same page in the Internet Explorer, I can print without any problems. The same is true everything else. The problem occurs just with Microsoft Edge. Any idea, how I can resolve this nerving issue?

@ManPot

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are getting issues while printing from MS Edge.

Are you selecting the printer from Printer menu?

  1. Open MS Edge.
  2. Find a page you want to print.
  3. Click the More Actions button with three dots in the top-right to open up more settings.
  4. Select Print.
  5. Select HP Officejet Pro 8610 Printer.
  6. Click Print at the bottom of the new Window.

Figure: Select the HP Officejet Pro 8610 Printer from the Printer menu.

If the issue persists, you could try resetting MS Edge.

Resetting Edge Using Settings

As resetting Edge browser is not a possible in Windows 10, so, you can use browser’s settings in order to clear it to default settings. Follow these steps below.

1. Open the More actions in Edge by clicking on the (…) icon located at the top-right side of the browser.

2. After opening the tab, click on the Settings present at the end of the tab panel. In the settings panel, navigate to Clear browsing Data and click on the button labeled as Choose what to clear.

3. Inside clear browsing data tab, check the boxes including Browsing History, Cookies and saved website data, cached data and files as shown in the picture below. After checking the boxes, click on the grey Clear button in order to reset the browser to its default. It would start clearing.

4. After the clearing process is completed, open the Task Manager. You can open it by pressing Win + X and selecting the task manager from the list. Inside the task manager, right click on the Microsoft Edge and select Go to details.

5. Now, right click on exe and select the End task. Do the same for anything named with Microsoft Edge. It would force close the Edge browser services and when you will open the browser again, the entire browser will be reset.

Sandytech20 - many thanks for your solution proposals. Unfortunately none of them worked. Therefore I still have the same issue, when I try to print within the Microsoft Edge App (On your printer happened an unexpected installation problem 0x80040154). Please note: Everything else printing & scanning works excellent - also in the internet explorer or the MS office products(!)

I also tried to repair and reset the Microsoft Edge App - also without success. I would have also deinstalled the app, but this button I cannot activate (it is greyed out).

So I really have no idea what I can try next. Any further proposal really appreciated..

Hi @ManPot, I am the Mr.Robot. It looks like you were interacting with @sandytechy20, but he is out of the office today, so I'll take over from here.

You have done a great job by trying the steps recommended.

As you mentioned when you print from the edge app you are getting an error On your printer happened an unexpected installation problem 0x80040154.

Try updating the windows to the latest version.

Microsoft Edge might not open a PDF file if the file contains data for accessibility technologies, such as screen readers like Narrator. Internet Explorer might open a PDF file that Microsoft Edge cannot open.

  1. On the webpage, click the More  icon in the top right corner, and then select Open with Internet Explorer.

Location of Open with Internet Explorer option

  2. When the webpage opens in Internet Explorer, follow the on-screen instructions to open the PDF file.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

  • If the previous troubleshooting step is not successful, you may need to clear spooler files and restart the spooler service.

    • In the search box on the taskbar, type Services, then select the search result of the same name.

    • In the Services list, double-tap (or double-click) Print Spooler. Select Stop > OK.

    • In the search box on the taskbar, type %WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers, select the file folder in the search results, and then delete all files in the folder.

    • Search for and open Services again

    • In the Services list, double-tab (or double-click) Print Spooler.

    • Select Start, and in the Startup Type list, make sure that Automatic is selected, and then select OK

Let me know if this works!

Take Care! 🙂

Dear Mr. Robot,

thanks a lot for your solution proposals, which I tried all, but whithout success.

Please note, that I can open PDF files in Microsoft Edge. No problem at all, because I can do everything within Microsoft Edge, with the exemtion of printing. When I try to print, I only receive the installation error. This is really ridiculous, because I can print in the Internet explorer, in all MS Office programs 2016 and everything else. The printer issue just happens in Microsoft edge and I have no idea how to solve.

Best, Manfred
