I called HP to get my computer to talk to my printer. After a few attempts I was unknowingly directed to this Mirosoft outfit.
The guy got control of my keyboard/mouse /computer , ran some screens saying my modem was being hacked and he could fix it.
He downloaded all my information by hacking into my computer and billed me $999.99. for 3 years. I was sceptical since an antivirus is only $50 at best buy. He then put me on hold for a short while, then, suprise. A dial tone!
When I got control of my computer back i found out that the computer still would not communicate with the printer and no antivirus program was installed. I tried calling the phone # he gave me but alas! No answer.
I immediatley called my Chase /Visa card and reported this fradulent charge. About a month later I recieved a notice from chase saying after investigation I was responsible for the charge because the vendor had all of my information.
The website is useless and the company is located in a condominium building in Florida.
I'm now in litigation with Chase to remove this fradulent charge.
I still would like to know how I was connected to this SCCAM operation without ever calling them.

I am sorry this happened.
You are doing what you can -
Call your Bank -- Although you authorized the transaction, see if they can help.
You were scammed but not by HP and not by Microsoft.
Just a plain old, Not-HP website landing that turned into a nightmare.
There are at least hundreds of scam sites all over the Internet -- probably thousands.
Hints that something was terribly wrong...
- HP Support does not free post support phone numbers,
- HP Support does not free post chat links.
- HP Support will not cold-call you, nor will HP pop-up unexpectedly on your screen.
- HP Support will not transfer you to other support sites. Not.
- You must first submit an online In-Warranty case to HP World-Wide Support
- When -- and if -- the case is accepted, contact information will be displayed for your region.

When you give away remote access to your computer, then anything in that computer that is not hidden behind encryption is susceptible to being compromised. Depending on the type of breach, the skill of the thieves, and their intent - "compromised" can mean installing unknown software or malware, accessing your private files, perhaps even copying those files or pictures, and discovering passwords.
What to do?
All of these and more...
- Change all your passwords -- including those for your network and router.
- Contact your bank - try to reverse charges for any supposed "security software" or "firewall protection". Ask your bank to put a freeze on mysterious charges that show up. True, there is a limit to what some banks will do; trying is better than not.
- Remove whatever software you know the thieves installed.
- Use your own security software or, for Windows use Windows Defender to scour your computer for bugs, malware, monitoring software.
- Report the incident to the authorities.
- Perhaps warn your friends, colleagues, or other contacts about being contacted by "unknown" people.
- Block any contact with the thieves - on phone, email, and text.
