Hi, I was gifted this printer as a Christmas present last year. I had it stored since I knew I was moving within the next year. I moved and recently got around to actually needing to use my printer, so I started the setup process. I must have thrown out the setup cartridges or something, because they are nowhere to be found. This isn't a second-hand printer, it is new and never used, but I have simply misplaced or thrown out the setup cartridges and can now not use the printer. The warranty is expired since it has been more than a year (even though this is the first time i'm actually getting around to setting it up) and I am unable to get any help from the AI chat bot. Can someone please help me either bypass the cartridge setup or arrange to have new setup cartridges sent? Thanks.

Hi @Kmanning360,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear you are unable to find the setup cartridges for your HP printer, and they are required to complete the initial setup, here are some steps you might consider:

Purchase Replacement Cartridges:

  • You may need to purchase a new set of setup cartridges specific to your printer model. Setup cartridges are sometimes necessary for the initial configuration of the printer.

Contact HP Support:

  • Contact HP Support for assistance. They might be able to help you obtain setup cartridges or provide guidance specific to your printer model. Visit the HP Support website to find contact information for your region.

Check for Standard Cartridges Option:

  • Some printer models may allow you to use standard HP cartridges instead of setup cartridges after contacting HP Support and adjusting some settings, or after performing a certain sequence in the setup process. Check your printer’s manual or online support documents for any such options.

Verify Setup Requirements:

  • Make sure your printer model actually requires setup cartridges. Some models might allow initial setup with regular cartridges. You can verify this by checking the printer's documentation or online support resources.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thank you for the message. See my response below:

Purchase Replacement Cartridges:: Where would I go to purchase the new setup cartridges? I would rather not have to purchase new setup cartridges. I tried to look for this online and don't see this option anywhere.

Contact HP Support: I am afraid I am unable to contact support due to my printer being outside the warranty.  Even though I just tried to set it up this week, it is out of the warranty window since i didn't set it up within the first year of receiving it. Trying to find support options, I can't even find a phone number or person to call. Only the AI chat bot, which doesn't help.

Check for Standard Cartridges OptionI have HP cartridges in the printer now, but keep receiving the Setup Cartridge error. Again, i would like to explore the sequence to get around having to use Setup cartridges, but cannot contact support. Is there a way for me to contact them directly?

Verify Setup Requirements: There is no other option for my printer.

Please help!!!
