I need to uninstall the HP software and re-install it.    I cannot uninstall because I get an error message that this fle is missing -

DIFxAPI.dll.    Without that file, the software will not uninstall so I cannot re-install a new and cleaner version.    I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro in the last few days,   This problem began with the old Win 10 Home.  I found the missing file and copied it to replace it.  I don't know where to drop it into the printer software.    Please help me locate where to put the .dll file.

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

I have gone through your Post and I would like to help

Please uninstall the driver from Root level and download the Full Feature Software

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the computer and download the Full Feature Software from Here and follow the onscreen Instructions

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a great day 😊

Krazy T,

I lost your answer to my problem in the glut of emails.   A few days ago someone else posted to the thread and I was surprised!  I followed your instructions to be degree that I could.   I only succeeded in deleteing the drivers..

The problem goes back to my original post,   I cannot delete what is basically an empty folder that used to contain the printer software.   I followed other advice to solve a problem of compatibility between Windows 10 and the HP printer software.   This problem is widespread, not that you weren't aware.    I deleted files per instructions to attempt a work around and was not successful

I am unable to delete the installation package  on my computer that is dated February 26, 2018.   The error message references an install folder,  a temporary folder I think, that is not on my computer any longer and the drivers that I just deleted.

I have an HP computer, so I do not want to confuse the software folders in drililing down in programs files.

I hope you can help.

A

Please run the SFC Scan on the Computer. System File Checker is a utility in Windows 10 that checks for system file corruption.

  • In the search box on the taskbar, enter Command Prompt. Press and hold (or right-click) Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the search results and select Run as administrator.
  • Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the space before each "/"). (Note: This step may take a few minutes to start and up to 30 minutes to run and complete.)
  • Enter sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/").

After running the SFC Scan you can try uninstall the printer drivers once again from Root level as instructed in the earlier post

KT,

Thanks for a quick response.   Before I start this, I want to get my facts straight.   What will this do other than allowing me to remove the drivers as you stated.   I removed the drivers with the previouos instructions.   I am unable to remove the folder that held the printer software,     If I try to install the software as is, the files will not download and I get a message that the install is complete.   If I try to uninstall whattever mess is on my computer, I get a message now that say I need to look into a temporary file that I do not have.    I also get messages about the missing .dll file and the missing drivers (that I uninstalled yestareday).

This started with Windows 10 Home after an update.   I was unable to get the printer to operate from the software.   I decided to install Windows 10 Pro for several reasons, and hoped that would also be the end of the printer issues.   I was not able to install the software, so I have been using the printer as a network printer and it does fine.    I cannot scan unless I use my cell phone and HPSmart.   This is a great temporary fix, but I need the software to woirk.

Thanks for  your efforts

If the OS is corrupted, then the printer driver package might not install properly. Moreover System File corruption in Windows might cause issues with certain applications including the printer software

The SFC scan will check for system file corruptions and fix them

If the issue persists you might have to Reset the Computer and then reload the Printer Software
