HP Envy 4501
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I recently installed Mojave 10.14.2 on my Mac Mini, and have since had problems with my HP Envy 4501 printer.  I finally got the printer to work, but the HP Easy Scan that I used before says: "HP Envy 4500 Series (D38098) is currently unavailable.  Please check if it is turned on and connected or try again later."  I finally found a scanner function in the System Preferences under Printers and Scanners, and it works, but it looks different than the old one, and there seems to be no way to transfer the scanned documents or use them in any way.  Just wondering if this printer needs a new driver or if it is too old for Mojave.

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Performing a power cycle and then selecting the correct scanner on HP Easy Scan may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1.) Turn off your Mac, Printer and Router.

2.) Unplug the power from the back of router, wait for 10 -15 seconds.

3.) Connect the power cable back to router, turn on the router first. Wait till the router to initialize.

4.) Turn on Printer and Mac.

5.) Open HP Easy Scan.

6.) Click "Scanner:" and select Browse Scanners...

7.) Select the listed HP Envy 4500.

8.) Try to Scan.

Let me know how it goes!

Thank you so much--it worked!  Everything is still REALLY slow, but I think that is an issue with an older Mac and a new operating system.  But my printer and scanner are working again, thank goodness.  I appreciate your quick response!
