I performed a HP firmware update. After performing an HP firmware update, the update install driver icon is still on my mac desktop. Can it be removed? I tried to move it to the trash, but I am unable to. Must it remain on my desktop?

Hi @Mimi1144,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP firmware update typically installs drivers and related software necessary for the printer to function correctly. It's not uncommon for installer icons to remain on the desktop after the update process is complete, especially if the installer package is still required for future reference or if it contains additional tools or documentation.

Here are a few steps you can try to remove the icon from your desktop:

Check if the update is complete: Ensure that the firmware update process has indeed completed successfully. Sometimes, the installer icon might linger if the update process is still ongoing or if there were errors during installation.

Restart your Mac: Sometimes, simply restarting your Mac can resolve minor glitches and remove any lingering icons or processes.

Use the installer to uninstall: Some installers provide an uninstall option within the package itself. Try opening the installer again and see if there's an option to uninstall or remove the installed software.

Manually delete: If none of the above methods work, you can try manually deleting the icon. Right-click (or Control-click) on the icon and select "Move to Trash" or simply drag the icon to the Trash. If you encounter an error stating that the file is in use, ensure that no processes related to the installer are running and try again.

Empty Trash: Once you've moved the icon to the Trash, make sure to empty the Trash to permanently delete the icon from your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
