HP DeskJet 2722 All-in-One Printer

My 2722 HP printer only wakes up once when I unplug and plug back in, for whatever is in the queue.  Once those "jobs" are printed, it goes right back to sleep.

Hi @Timb02,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP DeskJet 2722 not properly waking from sleep mode when new print jobs are sent to it. This can sometimes happen due to power-saving settings or network communication issues.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

1. Disable Sleep Mode:

Some printers have power-saving settings that may cause them to go to sleep and not wake up properly. Check if there's an option to disable sleep mode or extend the time before the printer goes to sleep.

  • On the printer control panel, check if there’s an option under Settings > Preferences > Power Management to adjust sleep mode settings.

2. Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

Outdated firmware can sometimes cause communication issues. Make sure the firmware is up to date.

  • Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page for your printer model and check for firmware updates.

3. Update Printer Drivers:

Make sure your printer drivers are up to date, as outdated drivers may cause sleep and wake issues.

  • You can update your drivers via the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP support website and downloading the latest driver for your HP DeskJet 2722.

4. Use a USB Connection (if applicable):

If you're using a wireless connection, try connecting the printer directly to your computer with a USB cable to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the issue is related to the network or the printer itself.

5. Restart Printer Spooler Service (Windows):

If the print queue isn’t sending jobs correctly, restarting the printer spooler service can help.

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  2. Scroll down to Print Spooler.
  3. Right-click it and select Restart.

6. Check Power and Network Settings:

Make sure the printer has consistent power and that your WiFi network isn’t causing it to disconnect.

  • If your printer is connected via WiFi, try resetting your router.
  • Check your WiFi signal strength near the printer.

7. Try a Static IP Address:

Sometimes printers have trouble waking up due to dynamic IP address assignments. Assigning a static IP to the printer may help:

  • Access your router settings.
  • Locate your printer in the list of connected devices and assign it a static IP.

8. Check HP Smart App or Printer Software Settings:

Within the HP Smart app or your printer software, there might be a setting for sleep mode or power-saving options. You can check and adjust these settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
