Hello,

i found this Officejet pro 6960 on the street. I'm able to scan and print B/W and Color (one and two sided),

however the menu screen on the printer is all white/blank.

I would like to ask for assistance to solve the problem.

Thank you

Ido

@IdoSimhi, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A blank or white screen on the HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 usually indicates a firmware issue, a display malfunction, or an internal hardware failure. Since you're still able to print and scan, it suggests that the printer is functional, but the screen isn't displaying correctly. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Perform a Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect it from power.
  2. Unplug all cables, including the power cable and any USB or network cables.
  3. Wait 2–3 minutes to clear any residual power.
  4. Plug the power cable back in and turn on the printer.

Check if the screen displays correctly after the reset.

Try a Semi-Full Reset

A semi-full reset restores the printer to factory settings but doesn't remove the firmware. Since the screen is blank, you'll need to try a key combination:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Back (↩️) and Cancel (✖️) buttons together.
  3. Turn on the printer while still holding the buttons.
  4. Release the buttons when the printer powers up.

If the reset works, the screen should now display normally.

Check for Firmware Updates (via HP Smart App or Web Interface)

Since the printer still prints, you can try updating the firmware using a computer:

  1. Via HP Smart App (Mac)
  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Click on Printer Settings > Advanced Settings (EWS).
  • Go to Tools > Printer Updates and install any available updates.
  1. Via Web Interface
  • Print a Network Configuration Report (press and hold the Wireless button for 5 seconds).
  • Find the printer’s IP address from the report.
  • Enter the IP address in a web browser.
  • Go to Settings > Printer Updates and check for updates.

Reseat the Display Cable (Advanced Step)

If the issue persists, the display ribbon cable might be loose or damaged. If you're comfortable opening the printer:

  • Power off and unplug the printer.
  • Carefully open the front panel (where the screen is).
  • Locate the flat ribbon cable connecting the screen to the printer’s main board.
  • Gently disconnect and reconnect it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your answer, sorry it took me so much to respond

I've tried most of the steps, including unplugging and replugging the printer and updating the firmware.

You've suggested also pressing Return ↩️ and cancel✖️, however my printer have a Home button not a Return one,

but i've tried that too. If there's any other button combination to try, please tell me so.

The only thing I didn't try is disconnecting the Display cable as I couldn't see where it goes, if there a video showing how to that I'll be happy to try.

I know there's an option to downgrade the firmware version, I wouldn't object to try that too as a final resolt.

Thanks
