My Envy 6400 Series printer keeps failing to print. I was on the phone with tech support for close to an hour, then it worked for about two weeks. Now it's again on strike. Whatever I want to print stays in the queue, and the yellow light on the side of the printer keeps flashing. I've unplugged the device and replugged it, and I removed the printer from the System and added it back on. Even removed all the other printers. This just doesn't cooperate. The wait time for call-in service is so long. What can I do to jump-start this pesky piece of equipment?

Hi @h45q,
Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Looks like your printer’s decided to take a little “me time” and is holding a grudge 😤. Don’t worry, we’ll talk it out and get things back on track! Let’s try a few tricks to convince it to get back to work 💪!
Clear the Print Queue:
- Although you’ve removed and re-added the printer, let's be sure the print queue is completely cleared:
- Go to the Printers & Scanners section on your computer.
- Right-click on your printer and select See what's printing.
- If there are any jobs in the queue, cancel them.
- You can also try restarting the Print Spooler service on your computer:
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Scroll down to Print Spooler and right-click it.
- Select Restart.
- Once this is done, try to print again.
Check for Paper Jams:
- Even though the printer seems to be working fine otherwise, sometimes a small paper jam can cause issues. Check the printer’s paper feed mechanism and remove any stuck paper, even small bits.
Check Ink Cartridges:
- Sometimes, the yellow light can indicate an issue with the ink cartridges.
- Make sure the cartridges are properly installed and are not empty or faulty. You can remove and reinstall them to make sure they’re seated properly.
- If any of the cartridges are low or empty, replace them with new ones.

Update Printer Drivers and Firmware:
- Printer issues can sometimes be caused by outdated drivers or firmware.
- Go to the HP Support Website and download the latest driver and firmware updates for your model.
- Install the updates and restart your printer.
Network Connection:
- If you're printing over Wi-Fi, make sure the printer is properly connected to the network.
- Check if the printer is still on the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
- Try printing a network configuration page directly from the printer's settings to ensure it's connected properly.
Perform a Printer Reset:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in.
- This is a simple reset, and it can often help resolve lingering issues.
