HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have tried disconnecting the power to everything and then powerind back up. No dice. I would like to convert from dynamic IP to fixed IP. How can I do that? Any better suggestions? Thank you.

Hi @mossrock,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw being offline and to set a fixed IP address, follow these steps:

1. Check Printer Connection

  • Ensure that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop. Check for any error messages on the printer's display.

2. Set a Fixed IP Address

To set a fixed IP address, you can do this either through the printer's control panel or via the printer's web interface.

Method 1: Using the Printer Control Panel

Access the Printer Menu:

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Network or Settings.

Select TCP/IP Settings:

  • Navigate to Network Setup and look for TCP/IP Settings or similar.

Change to Manual IP:

  • Change the IP address configuration from Dynamic (DHCP) to Static (Manual).

Enter IP Address:

  • Assign an IP address that is within your network range (e.g., if your router is 192.168.1.1, you might choose 192.168.1.100).
  • Set the Subnet Mask (usually 255.255.255.0) and Default Gateway (your router's IP address).

Save Settings:

  • Save the changes and exit the menu.

Method 2: Using the Web Interface

Find the Printer's Current IP:

  • Print a configuration page from the printer’s menu (usually found under Network settings) to find the current IP address.

Access the Printer Web Interface:

  • Open a web browser on your laptop and enter the printer’s current IP address in the address bar.

Log In:

  • If prompted, log in (default username is usually "admin" and the password may be "admin" or blank, but check your printer's documentation).

Navigate to Network Settings:

  • Go to Network > TCP/IP.

Set a Static IP:

  • Change from DHCP to Manual.
  • Enter the desired static IP, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway.

Save Changes:

  • Save the settings and reboot the printer if necessary.

3. Update Printer on Your Laptop

  • After setting a static IP, go to your laptop and:
    • Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Remove the printer and add it again using the new static IP address.
    • Click on Add a printer or scanner, then select The printer that I want isn’t listed, and choose Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.

4. Check Firewall and Security Software

  • Ensure that your firewall or security software isn’t blocking the printer connection.

5. Restart Everything

  • After making changes, restart your printer, laptop, and router to ensure everything syncs properly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
