HP Director was a software application that allowed users to perform a variety of functions with their HP devices.
It is an older version of the Printer software.
The same version may not function with the latest version of the MAC OS X.
For the recent versions of MAC OS X, there is a software called 'HP Utility' that can be installed by performing the Apple Software Update. HP Utility has the same features as HP Director.
Here are the steps to add the printer using Apple Software Update.
- Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
- Click Printers & Scanners or Print & Scan.
- If your printer is listed, click the name of your printer, then click the minus sign
to delete the printer.
- Click the plus sign
, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer.
- Click the Use or Print Using menu, then select the name of your printer.
( For printers connected on Wireless select AirPrint or Secure Airprint)
- Click Add to add the printer to the list.
- You can search for the 'HP Utility' under finder and launch the app for using the features of the printer.

Did as suggested. In the past I had an icon on the bottom of my screen that when I click on it. I activated the old HP Director application ito taking me into the process od scanning, saving, etc.
Do I continue to use that icon or is there a new one for HP Utility.
Also will I continue to get upgade notifictions for firmware from HP?

You can use the new HP Utility.
The notifications need to be turned on on the HP Utility. Please follow the below steps to turn on the notifications.
Open the HP Utility > Message Centre > Settings > Enable all alerts. This turns on the alert notifications.
Let me know if you need any further assistance.
Cheers!

These instructions are applicable to all MAC computers.
HP Utility is the replacement utility for HP Director.
Go to 'Finder' > 'Applications' > Open the 'Hewlett Packard' Folder > 'HP utility'
Open the 'HP Utility' icon to access the printer utility.
If you do not see the HP Utility, you can install it from here.
Let me know if you need any further help.

Did as you. suggested. HP utility is not in my Hewlett Packard "folder". Tried to install from "here" as you suggested, and downloaded hp-printer-essentials-D-5_10_5.pkg. Left Clicked on it, it goes to installer but does not ever indicate that anything happened.

Please check again in the HP folder if the HP Utility is available.
Go to 'Finder' > 'Applications' > Open the 'Hewlett Packard' Folder > 'HP utility'
The driver during installation goes through various phases and at the end does prompt that the installation was completed.
(Refer to the screenshot below)
If you do not see 'HP Utility' may be the installation was not successful.
Reboot the PC and try installing the HP Utility from this link again.
Let me know what happens.
