HP OfficeJet Pro 8710
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I've had no error messages.  Have not installed any upgrades.  The icon just disappeared.  I need it so I can scan some papers that need to be emailed.  It's been working fine for 5 years.  I've looked in my Recycle Bin and didn't find it.  I looked in Programs and Features and they all date from 2015 to 2018, but none of them say HP OfficeJet Pro 8710.  Like I said, it just disappeared.

@BillB9

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • Did you make any changes to your printer?
  • Are you able to make a copy of your printer?

You have to install the full feature printer software on your PC to create a shortcut.

First, uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software and check if it helps.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on the Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.

Update the full feature printer software using this link. Click Here

  • Open-File Explorer > navigate to the printer's bin folder (name of the printer may vary): C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 Printer\bin
  • Highlight HPPrint.exe > Right-Click on the file > Send to >> select Desktop (make a shorcut)
  • If you like: Right-Click on the new shortcut on your Desktop > Properties > General > edit the name to what you like

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
