My HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer can lately only scan but not print from my desktop computer. I have no problem printing and scanning wireless from my laptop and another computer. I have used HP Print and Scan Doctor multiple times with ZERO success. Also removed and reinstalled the program multiple times.

Hi @johndith,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I'd like to help!
I understand you are unable to print from the computer
To assist better -
- What is the error you are receiving when you try and print?
- Does the copy print out the same way?
- What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or device?
Meanwhile,try the below suggestions
Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.
First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Restart your computer.
- Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
- Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
- Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
- Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
- Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go running window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
- Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files. You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
- Now restart your computer again.
- Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
- Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
- Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
- Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well
- Windows image acquisition stop and restart the service
Install all the available Windows updates
If it is been a while since you updated your Windows, that is the main reason why Windows says your HP printer driver is unavailable. Here are the steps how to do a Windows Update to install all accessible operating system update.
If you are accessing Windows 10, then these steps are for you.
- Hit the Start menu and write an update. After that, click on the “Check for updates” option.
- Tap on the “Check for updates” option.
- After clicking on that option, Windows will install the updates automatically.
- When Windows completes all its updates, start your computer again and attempt to print a file to check if your printer works.
Reinstall the drivers from the Software and drivers page
If the error persists, Try installing the printer with a windows built-in driver
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I have tried the various solutions proposed, but the problem has NOT been solved.
Can scan from my computer, but not print any document. The strange thing is that I CAN print when using the snipping tool.
Printing from my laptop....... NO PROBLEM!

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to identify the issue.
- Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
- Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
- If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
- If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.
- If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.
Share the results.

Appreciate your help in searching for a solution!
I have tried the HP Print and Scan Doctor multiple time, but with very limited success:
- When printer connected via USB, I get NO test print. I DO get the Internal Test print.
- When printing via WiFi, I get No test print and NO internal test print.
Please advise next step.

Set up a USB printer connection with a built-in driver (Windows)
When you connect the printer USB cable, Windows automatically installs and adds your printer to provide basic printing functionality.
Make sure there is an open USB port available directly on your computer. If you use a USB hub or docking station, the printer might not receive enough power to operate properly.
Connect the printer USB cable to the computer.
If a 'Found new hardware' message displays, follow any prompts to install the driver, and then send a print job to confirm the connection.
If the printer connection or print job fails, continue with these steps.
Search for and open Printers & scanners.
Click Add a printer or scanner.
If your printer is in the list, select it, click Add device, and then follow the prompts to install the driver.
If you printer is not in the list, continue with these steps.
Click The printer that I want isn't listed, and then select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
Click Next, select Use an existing port, select (USB001: Virtual printer port for USB) from the drop-down menu, and then click Next.
If prompted, click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to finish updating.
Under Manufacturer, select HP or Hewlett Packard, and then select the name of your printer.
Click Next, and then follow the prompts to install the driver.
Disconnect then reconnect the USB cable to complete the printer setup.
Let me know how this goes!
