Hi @rhythmking,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue with your HP Officejet 5740 printer. Here are some steps to help troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem where the printer won't turn on:
Check the Power Source:
- Ensure that the printer's power cord is securely plugged into both the printer and a working electrical outlet. It might be worth trying a different outlet to rule out any issues with the one currently in use.
- If you're using a power strip or surge protector, try plugging the printer directly into the wall outlet.
Inspect the Power Cord and Connections:
- Check the power cord for any visible damage or signs of wear. If the cord appears damaged, it may need replacing.
- Ensure that all connections are firm and correctly seated, including any power modules or adapters associated with the printer.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Remove the power cord from the back of the printer while the printer is still off.
- Wait at least 60 seconds. Pressing and holding the power button for 30 seconds while the printer is unplugged can help discharge any residual power in the printer.
- Reconnect the power cord and try turning the printer on again.
Check for External Problems:
- Ensure that there isn't any debris or objects that might be blocking the printer's buttons or switches.
- Inspect the printer for any signs of damage or unusual noises when attempting to power it up.
Alternative Solutions:
- Consider checking the warranty status of your printer. If it's still under warranty, HP may repair or replace it.
- Look into potential recalls or known issues by visiting the HP website and entering your printer's model number.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
