My HP Officejet Pro 8620 is not detecting printhead. I have cleaned both printhead and ink cartridges.

My question is would the printhead be faulty or would my printer needs to be updated?

Hi @DMC222,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet Pro 8620 is not detecting the printhead, even after cleaning both the printhead and ink cartridges, there are a few possibilities to consider:

  1. Printhead Fault: The printhead itself may be faulty or damaged. Printheads can become defective due to clogging, electrical issues, or physical damage over time. If cleaning doesn't resolve the issue, the printhead may need to be replaced.

  2. Printer Update: Sometimes, software or firmware updates can resolve detection issues. It's advisable to check for any available updates for your printer from the HP support website. Updating the firmware can provide improvements and bug fixes that might resolve compatibility or detection issues.

  3. Connection Issue: Ensure that the printhead is properly seated in its carriage and all electrical connections are intact. Poor seating or a disrupted electrical connection can prevent the printer from detecting the printhead.

  4. Hardware Troubleshooting: Try reseating the printhead.
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    • Remove and reseat the printhead and the cartridges to ensure they are properly installed.
    • Power the printer back on and check if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
