My HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 has sent me an error message that the print head appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly Installed. When I press the ? Button it says Solution 1 is to reinstall the printheads and to “Touch Show Me” to be guided. Where do I touch “Show Me”? Touching the screen does nothing.

Hi @Brown222,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 is displaying an error message about the print head and instructs you to “Touch Show Me” for guidance, it’s likely referring to a specific feature on the printer's control panel. If touching the screen isn’t working, here are the steps you can follow to resolve the issue:
1. Access the Printer’s Control Panel
- Screen Issue: Ensure the printer’s screen is functioning properly. If the screen is unresponsive, it may be due to a hardware issue.
2. Check the Printhead
- Turn Off Printer: Power off the printer and unplug it from the wall.
- Open Access Door: Open the cartridge access door to reveal the printhead and cartridges.
- Remove and Reinstall: Gently remove the printhead by following the instructions in the printer’s manual. Reinstall it carefully, ensuring it clicks into place securely.
- Check Cartridges: Remove and reinstall the ink cartridges to ensure they are properly seated.
3. Clean the Printhead and Contacts
- Clean Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer. Let everything dry completely before reinstalling.
4. Perform a Reset
- Power Cycle: After reinstalling the printhead, plug the printer back in and power it on. This can sometimes clear error messages and reset the printer’s internal components.
5. Consult the Manual
- Check Manual: Refer to the printer’s manual for specific instructions related to the print head error. The manual may provide detailed guidance on addressing the issue.
6. Touch “Show Me” on the Printer’s Screen
- Guided Assistance: If the screen is responsive but not showing the “Show Me” button, it could be that the screen needs to be calibrated or there might be an issue with the display. In some cases, you might need to perform a factory reset or consult the manual for alternate instructions.
7. Firmware and Software Updates
- Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Sometimes updating the firmware can resolve hardware detection issues.
- Download Updates: Go to HP’s support website, search for your printer model, and download the latest firmware and software.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
