My sister-in-law gave me her old HP Photosmart 7760. For about a year, it worked well with my MacBook Pro. Then it stopped working. I recently upgraded my OS to 10.15, but it wasn't working for my OS 10.14 either. I've tried a fresh HP driver download several times. I've used HP Smart. HP Smart claims it cannot find my printer when hooked up with the USB cable. How can I get these two old friends to cooperate with each other again?

Hi,
Please follow below steps to uninstall any installed software using HP Uninstaller:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06960563
Once the uninstall completes, reinstall the latest drivers below:
Power on the printer and ensure it is connected, open System Preferences > Printers & scanners and press the Plus sign.
Select your printer, then be sure to select your printer model within the Use drop-down menu and press on Add, then try printing.
If the printer is not listed yet, I suggest trying another USB cable and check for any difference then, ensure the USB is directly connected to a USB port of your Mac and is not longer than 1.5-1.8 meters long.
