HP Deskjet 3510
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I bought a used  HP Deskjet 3510. It was never used or set up. I have a Mac with OSX 10.11.6  El Capitan. I downloaded and installed the driver from the HP website but I cannot get my computer to recognize the printer. Then I happened to see on the website that this printer driver might not be compatible with my operating system. I really need help.

Greetings @pw9

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are unable to configure the printer on your MAC computer running MAC OS X 10.11.6.

Not to worry, I will be glad to help.

May I know how are you trying to setup the printer? (USB or Wireless)

Recommend you follow the procedure mentioned below.

(Have the printer disconnected from the computer during uninstallation.)

HP Printers - Uninstalling HP Printer Software (Mac)

Once you have uninstalled the printer software, reset the printing system.

HP Printers - Resetting the Printing System (Mac)

Restart the printer, download the printer software from this link. (Printer software is available for your printer on our website for MAC OS X 10.11)

Power ON and connect the printer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

Complete the setup as USB printer.

Once the printer is working fine with USB connection, you can follow the procedure mentioned in this link to convert the USB to wireless.

Let me know if this helped.

Thank you for the advice. I was trying to set it up as wireless.

The printer was supposedly new but it did not have a usb cord or CD or ink in the box when I bought it secondhand!

I will find a cord to use and follow your instructions and let you know how it goes.

Well, I went through the procedure you described and my printer seems to work reasonably well now. However my scanner does not. I try to launch the scanner and it just spins the clock endlessly in "searching for scanner" mode. This is pretty critical for me. I have a home business and I need to scan documents quite frequently, not just print them. What am I missing?
