Hi,
I upgraded to macOS Sequoia 15.1. My existing HP LaserJet 1020 has stopped working.
I tried to remove the printer and re-connect, but the driver is not found.
I downloaded "HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers" from HP website, but it's not getting installed.
The error message says the software is only for 15.0 or older.
What is the way around?

Hi @Bhadra1020
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP printer, It looks like you're facing an issue with your HP LaserJet 1020 after upgrading to macOS Sequoia 15.1. Since your existing HP driver isn’t compatible with the latest macOS version, here are a few steps you can try to get your printer working again:
1. Check for Native macOS Drivers
macOS typically includes native drivers for many HP printers, including the HP LaserJet 1020. Here's how you can try installing it using the built-in macOS drivers:
- Remove the Printer:
- Open System Preferences on your Mac.
- Go to Printers & Scanners.
- Select your HP LaserJet 1020 from the list and click the minus (-) button to remove it.
- Add the Printer Again:
- Still in Printers & Scanners, click the plus (+) button to add a printer.
- Wait for your printer to appear in the list (it should appear as an available device).
- If it doesn't show up, turn the printer off and on, and ensure it's connected to your Mac via USB.
- Select the Built-in Driver:
- Once the printer appears, select it and check if the "Use" drop-down menu is set to "AirPrint" or "Generic PostScript Printer".
- Try printing a test page. While AirPrint may not support all advanced features, it should be able to print basic documents.
2. Using CUPS for macOS
If you still cannot find an updated driver, you can try CUPS (Common Unix Printing System), a print server that might offer basic functionality for your printer:
- Open Safari and go to http://localhost:631/ (this is the CUPS web interface on your Mac).
- Log in as an administrator.
- Click on Administration and then Add Printer.
- From here, you should be able to add your HP LaserJet 1020 as a printer, either by USB or via network.
- Set the model to HP LaserJet 1020 or select a Generic driver that works.
