Hi @sp09,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Use Direct USB Connection:

  • Plug in the Printer: Connect your printer directly to your Mac using a USB cable.
  • Check for Driver Compatibility: Sometimes basic functionality can still be achieved with older drivers. Check HP Support for any older drivers that might be compatible with your macOS version.

Apple AirPrint:

  • Check AirPrint Capability: HP Smart Tank 580 supports Apple AirPrint, which allows you to print directly from macOS without needing specific HP software.
  • Connect Printer to Wi-Fi: Ensure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.
  • Print via AirPrint:
    • Open Document: Open the document you want to print.
    • Select Print: Choose File > Print in the application.
    • Select Printer: Select the HP Smart Tank 580 from the list of available printers.

Use Generic Drivers:

  • Open Print & Fax Preferences: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Add Printer:
    • Click on the + button.
    • Choose HP under the Generic or Nearby Printers list.
    • Use the default drivers provided by macOS for basic printing functionality.

HP Print Service Plugin:

  • Enable Printers on Network: Make sure your printer is connected to the same network as your Mac.
  • Check for HP Print Service Plugin: Check if your macOS version supports the generic HP print service plugin by attempting to add a printer through System Preferences.

Manual IP Address Configuration:

  • Obtain Printer IP Address: Print a network configuration page from your printer to get its IP address.
  • Add Printer via IP:
    • Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Click on the + button to add a printer.
    • Select IP tab and enter the printer’s IP address.
    • Use Line Printer Daemon (LPD) as the protocol.

Third-Party Print Solutions:

  • CUPS (Common Unix Printing System):
    • Open a web browser and go to http://localhost:631.
    • Use the web interface to add the printer and manage printing options.

I hope this helps.
