Hi @KBarbara,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
1. Update Printer Software
Ensure you have the latest software and drivers for your printer. You can download the latest printer software from the HP website.
2. Check Connection
Ensure the printer is properly connected to your MacBook Air.
- For USB Connection: Ensure the cable is securely connected to both the printer and the USB port on your MacBook Air.
- For Wireless Connection: Ensure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your MacBook Air.
3. Reset Printing System on Mac
Resetting the printing system on your MacBook Air can help resolve connectivity issues.
- Click the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
- Open Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) in the list of printers and choose Reset printing system. This will remove all printers, scanners, and faxes.
- Re-add your printer by clicking the + button.
4. Reinstall HP Smart App
Using the HP Smart app can simplify setting up your printer with your MacBook Air.
- Download the HP Smart app from the Apple App Store.
- Open the HP Smart app and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your printer. Ensure that you select the correct model (HP OfficeJet 3830).
5. Check for macOS Updates
Ensure your MacBook Air is running the latest version of macOS.
- Go to System Preferences > Software Update and click Update Now if an update is available.
6. Restart Devices
Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve many issues.
- Restart your MacBook Air.
- Restart your printer.
7. Reset Network Settings on Printer
If you are using a wireless connection, reset the network settings on your printer.
- Turn on the printer, go to the Control Panel, and select Setup.
- Select Network, then Restore Network Settings.
8. Add Printer Manually
If the printer is still not detected automatically, try adding it manually.
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Click the + button to add a printer.
- Select your HP OfficeJet 3830 from the list and follow the on-screen instructions.
I hope this helps.
