HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

Hello,

I recently received the following message from Apple: "Existing software on your system loaded a system extension signed by "HP Inc.", which will be incompatible with a future version of macOS. Contact the developer for support." What is HP going to do about this incompatibility?

Kind regards,

Ray H

Hi @RayHo,

Here are some temporary workarounds to keep your printer working on macOS beyond version 15 (Sequoia):

Use HP's Universal Print Driver HP has a Universal Print Driver (UPD) that supports a wide range of HP printers. You might want to check if this driver will be updated to support macOS beyond version 15. You can download the HP Universal Print Driver from HP’s support site.

Use a Shared Printer Option

  • If you have access to another Mac or PC, you can share your HP LaserJet P1102w via Printer Sharing and print through that shared device, even if your Mac becomes incompatible with the printer in the future.
  • This workaround would require setting up your printer on another computer and sharing it on your network.

you can print from a different device.

I hope this helps.

Hi @RayHog

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re encountering an issue related to system extensions on your macOS device that will soon be deprecated or incompatible in a future version of macOS (macOS 15 Sequoia). Apple has been moving away from using system extensions in favor of newer, more secure methods of handling device support, particularly as part of their transition toward a more security-focused approach with newer macOS versions.

You can always  switch to AirPrint: On macOS and OS X, most HP printers work with Apple AirPrint to provide full-quality printing without the need to download or install drivers.

I hope this helps.

Unfortunately, https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201311, does not list my printer (a HP LaserJetP1102w) as an AirPrint compatible device.
