Hi @brooksbank,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY 6020e All-in-One Printer is not printing Word files, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Check Printer Status:

  • Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to your computer or network.
  • Make sure there are no error messages or paper jams on the printer.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for your HP ENVY 6020e.
  • Install the drivers and restart your computer.

Check Print Queue:

  • Open the print queue on your computer (usually found in the Devices and Printers section or the printer settings).
  • Clear any stuck print jobs and try printing again.

Set Printer as Default:

  • Ensure your HP ENVY 6020e is set as the default printer on your computer. This can be done in the Devices and Printers section.

Check Print Settings in Word:

  • Open the Word file you’re trying to print.
  • Go to File > Print, and ensure the correct printer is selected.
  • Check the print settings to make sure there are no unusual settings or paper size issues.

Test Printing Other Documents:

  • Try printing other types of documents (like PDFs or images) to see if the issue is specific to Word files or if it affects other formats as well.

Reinstall the Printer:

  • Remove the printer from your computer’s devices list.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Add the printer again and reinstall any necessary software.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Visit the HP website to check if there is a firmware update available for your printer.

Check Connectivity:

  • If you’re using a network printer, ensure your computer is connected to the same network as the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Yes, but why doesn't my HP Smart sort this? That is its function?

Several times I have had to go through Print issues. I'm sick and tired of it and considering actually getting a Printer from another Company.

Why is HP Smart not doing its job?

Before wireless Printers, they all became wireless, when I had a HP Printer with a Cable, never had these issues, for a Decade.

Your Wireless system, is, excuse my French - sa

Hi @brooksbank,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with printing from word files on your printer.

Do you have the same issue when you make a copy on the printer standalone? (Place an original document on the scanner glass and make a copy to confirm hardware is working fine)

To understand the issue and help you, please share the details listed below:

- Error messages or Blinking lights (if any) on the unit.

- When was the last time your printer was connected to the network or working fine?

- Were there any changes made to your printer or router recently?

- May I know which devices are you using to print eg: Windows PC, Mac, or Smartphone (Android or iPhone)?

Note: Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Every 3 to 4 months, I go through these processes and will have to again.

It is appaling that Software Updates are so frequent and mess up the while system.

Why should all of us Customers have to spend hours going through these processes every 3 to 4 months.

It is infuriating and time wasting; often time I don't have.

Yes, It'll take up to half a day as ever mucking about.

When you had Cables there were not all these issues.  I had a HP Printer for over a decade, with a Cable. No problems for a Decade.

SMART and Wireless, problems every 3/ months.

SMART is not SMART at all.  It is absolute Low Grade pathetic Rot.

I'm disgusted that I go through this every 3 to 4 months.

Hi @PatrickBoyle,

Thank you for sharing the above information. I can understand your frustration—technical issues like that can be incredibly irritating, especially when they interrupt your workflow. It sounds like the wireless connectivity and updates have caused a lot of headaches for you. Many people feel the same way about newer technology when it doesn’t work as reliably as older systems.

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

A) Perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, Please follow the steps below to connect your printer to the network again.

1) Uninstall the HP smart app by click on this link, Restart the computer or mobile device to clear possible error conditions.

2) Enable Wi-Fi setup mode: When you turn on your printer for the first time, it is temporarily placed in Wi-Fi setup mode so that it can be discovered during setup. Use the printer control panel to restore Wi-Fi setup mode, and then set up the printer again. Go to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer for more information.

3) Refer to this link to use the HP smart app on your phone/tablet/PC to add a printer.

Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

......, when I can find the time.

To get back on track, has taken me up to 4 hours before; so I'm reluctant to try anything, until I have time set aside.

It is not your fault as an Individual, but, yes, it certainly messes up my Workflow and disrupts my general life.

It is appaling that I have to repeat these processes every 3 to 4 months.

Yup, when I have time!!

Mr Alden4

Dear sir

I have been away, and would like to resume the contact.

The above heading is wrong. The printer is OK, but it seams to be programmed to fail to print black ink.I recognise that HP needs to force the use of HP ink, which I agree to.

I am 98 yrs old, and need a bit of help. Years ago I always bought HP Scopes and Specans, they were the best. I remember the tale of Messrs Hewlet and Packard starting in their garrage.

Any help would be use full.                      Yours......R.N.Broksbank. M.I. E.T.
