When I print from my computer to the printer, it will not print in color. However, if I scan something in color on the scanner, it will print in color. What do I need to do?

Hi @TessBerry,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your printer’s color printing issue might be related to settings on your computer or printer. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
Check Printer Settings:
- On Your Computer: Go to the “Printers & Scanners” section in your computer’s settings. Find your printer, click on it, and then go to “Manage” or “Printer Properties.” Look for a “Printing Preferences” or “Advanced” tab where you can select color options. Ensure that color printing is enabled and that it's not set to print in black and white or grayscale.
- On the Printer: If your printer has a display panel, navigate to the settings and check if there’s an option to select color printing or if any settings might be forcing monochrome printing.
Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Go to the printer web hp site, download the latest drivers for your specific printer model, and install them. Sometimes outdated or corrupted drivers can cause issues with color printing.
Check Ink Levels:
- Make sure your color ink cartridges are not empty or low. If you’re low on any color ink, it might cause issues with color printing.
Check Printer Preferences in Application:
- When you print from an application (like Word, Photoshop, etc.), check the print dialog box. Make sure the “Color” option is selected rather than “Black and White” or “Grayscale.”
Printer Firmware Update:
- Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer. HP occasionally release updates that fix bugs and improve performance.
Print a Test Page:
- Print a test page or a color calibration page directly from the printer’s settings menu to see if it prints correctly. This can help identify if the issue is with the printer hardware or the computer settings.
Check the Print Queue:
- Sometimes, print jobs can be stuck in the queue with incorrect settings. Clear any pending print jobs and try printing again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
