hp laserjet mfp m234dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm pretty much at my wit's end with this problem. I get an error code saying my printer can not register, and I've followed all the advice on the HP site that I can. The error code is OW_4XX_OWSW00001. I've tried registering it thru the windows app and the android app. I've tried updating the firmware. I've tried hiding it and then re-registering it. I even installed that stupid HP Scan doctor and that didn't work. Because it was the same thing as working with it from the settings in HP smart. Now idk how to get rid of Scan Doctor, my printer still isn't registered, and I've resorted to asking a community of people to help fix a problem that I should be able to talk to an HP representative about. If someone from HP answers this, I want to let you know I'm thoroughly unhappy with your product and your app. And if there was a way I could get a refund for it I would. I just want to use my printer. Any help is appreciated.

Can you send me the instructions? I’m having the same issue. It’s wild how my new printer won’t print because it’s not letting me register

Welcome to the HP support community.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

The printer HP Laserjet M209dw used to work fine for a while (a couple of weeks) but suddenly it wont anymore.  In windows 10 it says it needs to complete the setup. So I do as it suggest and the HP smart (hmm) starts and tries to do something. It says I need to create a HP account and register (the printer used to work fine anyway). I have no option but creating an account and continue, still no options during process, but suddenly an error code: 0W_4XX_OWSW00001 appears.

I try to start over, I switch off the printer, wait an minute, restarts the computer and try again with same result. I have tried this 5-6 times.
I can get a print report (suing teh buttoins on printer) and it says its connected to WiFi with Excellent signal strenght but that I need to complete the guided setup!

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Let me know if this helps.

Didnt work. Followed instructions, but exactly same problem.

2) Cant select any HP printer, there is only HP smart. Uninstalled HP smart.

9) Files were in use. Worked to remove after a restart.

Every other # went fine. I rebooted comupter, downloaded HP smart och reinstalled it and got exactly same error.

I tried windows built in guide to search for and fix printing errors but it couldnt make it. I also found a HP tool to fix printing errors but it didnt make it.

 Create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)

2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right-click the printer and left-click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.

3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.

4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:

Create & Use TCP IP port

Didnt work to assign a new TCP/IP port. Windows still says the printer is offline and HP smart says it needs to finish setup (with same error)
After that I deleted teh printer from control-panel

I did a reset on printer (back to factory settings)

I started with HP smart and installed a new printer, after a couple of times it found the printer and connected to the printers wifi. I followed the guide and let it have my networks wifi password. The printer is connected to my networks wifi, my computer is connected to the same wifi but in the step when the printer should be added to my HP account I got the same error.

I have tried reboot the router, the printer and the computer. Still same problem.

I also tried the HP smart app in an android cell to setup the printer. Everything went fine til the  last step where the printer should be added to my HP account. I got an error (no code, just a "sorry, something went wrong"). I tried a couple of times on the phone.

Any more ideas?

Why do it so complicated with clodprinting, registration accounts etc? I just want to print from my computer over my home network.
