I just received a replacement printer due to a carriage jam issue with our previous printer. I am doing the initial set up on the printer. It is now showing me a screen with a qr code to finish setup. I have scanned the qr code and downloaded hp smart to try to finish set up and connect my printer to the wifi. My printer will not show up as an option to select. I have my bluetooth on and I am "findable". I have tried unplugging and restarting my printer. I also can't get the screen to go to the menu to try to manually connect the wifi. It is just stuck on this screen and I don't know what to do or where to go from here. Our warranty is also expired and I would prefer not to have to pay to get phone support.
I would appreciate any help you guys may be able to offer me. 🙂

Hi @trusalon,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for reaching out! I understand how frustrating it is to be stuck on the QR code setup screen during the initial setup of your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e, especially when the printer doesn’t appear in the HP Smart app on your Mac running macOS Monterey.
This issue is typically caused by the printer being in HP+ setup mode, which requires setup through the HP Smart app while connected to the internet. Here’s how to proceed:
1. Check Compatibility
Make sure you're using the latest version of HP Smart for macOS:
👉 HP printer setup (HP Smart app) | HP® Support
🔄 Restart both your Mac and the printer after installation.
2. Enable Bluetooth and Location
HP Smart uses Bluetooth + location services to detect printers in setup mode.
- On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Location Services
- Ensure HP Smart has permission
- Make sure Bluetooth is ON
3. Connect the Printer via HP Smart
- Open HP Smart
- Click “Set Up a New Printer”
- Look for “OfficeJet Pro 9015e” under available devices (often appears as “Setup <model>”)
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete Wi-Fi setup and HP+ activation
📌 Tip: If the printer doesn't appear, bring your Mac within 2–3 feet of the printer, as Bluetooth range can be limited.
4. Printer Still Not Detected? Try USB Setup (Fallback)
- Connect the printer to your Mac using a USB cable
- Launch HP Smart again
- The printer should now appear and allow you to finish the setup
- After setup, you can disconnect the USB and use the printer wirelessly
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
