The solution described depends on the printer model (a Photosmart 7660) appearing in the Windows 10 update list. Today I find NO Photosmart models in the list. So the so-called solution cannot help me get my Photosmart D6160 working. Nothing at www.hp.com/support is any help.

@cuddlyable3, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

There is no driver available in the HP Support site for a HP Photosmart D6160 Printer. You may install windows built-in drivers.

Refer to this document to know how.

Thank you for responding Kumar.

After a s-l-o-w update my Windows 10 list of printer manufacturers shows Hewlett Packard (twice!) and HP. There are some Photosmart model numbers listed but I do not find Photosmart D6160 which I need.

If you have checked under HP, Hewlett-Packard, or Hewlett Packard in the Manufacturer pane and do not find the Photosmart D1660, Go to HP and select HP Deskjet 990c or Deskjet 6980 and install the printer using this driver.

Try printing.

Let me know how this goes.

Hello Kumar

I am still getting no action from my Photosmart D6160 printer.

The updated list is long but I do not find Photosmart D1660, Deskjet 990c or Deskjet 6980 that you mentioned.

(Yesterday I saw Photosmart D1600 series and Photosmart D1600 series BT but they are not there today. Strange.)

Try using HP Smart App and let me know if that works. Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04675142

@CrazyToad

I down loaded and ran HP SmartApp. It cannot find my USB-connected Photosmart D6160 printer. It enters an endless loop that goes:

Connecting to printer....(about 3 minutes) How to connect USB cable [Continue] (repeats)

I'm afraid the printer is not supported by the app either. Refer to this document for more info. You may have to upgrade your printer.

Hello Kumar
I am still unable to print on my USB-connected Photosmart D6160.

On Windows 10 I installed Photosmart Series D6100 BT from the available list. There is no action.

I try a different PC running Vista. From www.hp.com/contacthp/ I download and run SR_CDA_Full_Non-Network_enu_NB which gives me an installation procedure for Photosmart Series D6100 that seems to complete satisfactorily. However the printer will not do anything and the screen warns Ink System Failure, although the printer has full inks which is confirmed by Toolbox - Estimated ink levels. I note that the model number that www.hp.com/contacthp/ deduced from my S/N is C9089B but my printer is labelled C9089A aug 8, 2006.

What procedure is there to upgrade the printer?

HP Recommended

@cuddlyable3

Ink system failure is related to the printhead of the printer which could be damaged, Kindly contact Hp Support team as mentioned in my previous post for service/upgrade options.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
