HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2775 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello HP Community,

I’m using an HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2775, currently running firmware TWP1FN2424DR (rev.0). Since this update, the printer rejects my refilled cartridges (Error E0 with blinking lights), making it unusable for my work.

I understand that HP does not officially provide previous firmware versions, but I’m reaching out in case any user or HP support staff can guide me to:

1. An older firmware file (.exe or .ful) that supports refilled or non-HP cartridges
2. A method to safely downgrade from the current firmware
3. Confirmation if any previous versions such as TWP1FN2251DR allow third-party cartridges

Any help, links, or backups would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and support!

Best regards,
Jhon Cadena

Hi @jacksonc_100,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I truly understand how frustrating this is, especially when you rely on your printer for daily work.

Unfortunately, HP does not support or provide a way to downgrade printer firmware, and older firmware files aren’t officially distributed once an update is applied. This is because firmware downgrades can risk device stability and security.

That said, I want to clarify the issue:
The TWP1FN2424DR firmware includes security updates that block the use of certain refilled or non-HP cartridges.
This is part of HP’s Dynamic Security feature, which is designed to ensure the best print quality and protect the printer from counterfeit cartridges, but it does limit third-party or refilled cartridges that don’t have valid HP security chips.

Here’s how we can help you work around this:

Check if the cartridge is fully recognized:

Remove and gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.

Reinsert the cartridge firmly.

Try performing a hard reset of the printer by unplugging it for 60 seconds and then plugging it back in.

Try using genuine HP cartridges:

I understand this might not be your first choice, but with the new firmware, only genuine HP cartridges with original chips will work reliably.

If you have Instant Ink service, make sure you’re using the correct Instant Ink cartridges.

Disable auto-updates for future:

For the future, you can disable automatic firmware updates (from the HP Smart app or Embedded Web Server) to avoid unwanted updates that affect cartridge compatibility.
Note: This won’t undo the current update but can help going forward.

I hope this helps.

Hi @jacksonc_100,

Thank you so much for your detailed feedback.

I truly understand how frustrating it is when your printer is in good condition but can’t be used due to cartridge recognition issues.

I do want to clarify that, unfortunately, HP does not officially provide a way to downgrade firmware or unlock compatibility with refilled or third-party cartridges once the printer has updated to a newer security version. The latest firmware includes Dynamic Security, which is designed to ensure print quality and protect against counterfeit or non-genuine cartridges. I understand this can be limiting for customers who prefer to refill.

Here’s what I recommend to help you use your printer reliably again:

If possible, please use genuine HP cartridges with original security chips, which will work with your current firmware.

For the future, you can disable automatic firmware updates in your printer’s Embedded Web Server or HP Smart settings to avoid automatic updates that could restrict cartridge compatibility further.

I understand this doesn’t solve the refill limitation right now, but I truly want to help you keep your printer usable and affordable.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,

Kuroi_Kenshi
