I need help with software for Office jet pro 6978 to use with windows xp. I asked this question before and got a software patch for 6960 series which did not work. I was able to download but my computer would not find the printer eve though it was connected to wifi and working with another computer I have. Is there a 6970 sortware patch??

Hello,
I see that the only Basic Software is available for only Win XP 32 bit and you may download using the below url.
If the above does not work, then try the below steps....
Please check if the XP computer and Printer are connected to same network.
Click Start button on the Computer .
then click on Control Panel .
then Printers and Faxes
On top-left, click on Add a Printer
Click Next. Select the Local Printer attached to this computer radio button. Uncheck the Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer check box. Click Next.
Select the Create New Port radio button. From the Type of port: drop down list choose Standard TCP/IP Port. Click Next.Click Next.
Note: You will now be prompted for 2 items: the Printer Name or IP Address and the Port Name. The 1st item is the Static IP address that has been assigned to the device. The 2nd item may be edited by you or left alone. In the Printer Name or IP Address box, enter the IP Address of the device. In the Port Name box, you may leave the default or edit. Ex: Port names can't have spaces. They should be short but descriptive.
Click Next. Click Finish. If Step 10 completed successfully, you are now ready to install the driver. Choose your driver. Click Next.
Note: If you are prompted to replace or keep existing driver, click on Keep Existing Driver. Click Next. Edit the Printer Name if needed. If you want this to be the default printer, click Yes. If not, click No. Then click Next. Select the Do not share this printer radio button. Click Next. Leave the Print a test page (recommended) button checked. Click Finish. When asked if the Test Page printed correctly, click Yes. At this point, you should have the device listed in the Printers and Faxes folder. You can attempt to use it as a printer.
Now try printing . It should work.
