Hey there! @Mc4mygirls, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you are trying to put the printer in quiet mode from the EWS page but it is asking for the password.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Are you looking for the EWS password or the printer control panel password?

Excellent description and a great diagnosis done. It is greatly appreciated.

Try the steps recommended below to restore the EWS password.

Try performing a hard reset on your printer and check if it helps.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

       NOTE:

HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Also, to restore EWS password try the steps recommended below.

  1. Open a web browser and type the printer IP address in the address field exactly as it appears on the Configuration Page, and then press Enter.

  2. Click the Security tab, and under General Security, set the local administrator password.

    1. Keep the username default as admin.

    2. Type the New Password and Verify Password.

    3. Navigate to the bottom of the page and click Apply.

Use these credentials the next time you Log In to the EWS.

Also, if the issue still persists try restoring the network settings to defaults on your printer and check if it helps.

To restore network settings to default settings ● Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button from the printer control panel together for three seconds.

Note: Restoring the printer to factory defaults will erase the settings on your printer. You have to re-setup the printer from scratch.

Refer the print user guide for more information. Click Here

Note: Refer page 69 for more information.

After you restore the printer settings to default. Turn on the quiet mode on your printer.

To turn Quiet Mode on or off from the embedded web server (EWS)
1. Open the EWS. For more information, see Open the embedded web server on page 72.
2. Click the Settings tab.
3. In the Preferences section, select Quiet Mode, and then select On or 2ff.
4. Click Apply.

To turn Quiet Mode on or off from the printer software (Windows)
1. Open the HP printer software. For more information, see Open the HP printer software (Windows)
on page 20.
2. Click the Quiet Mode tab.
3. Select On or off.
4. Click Save Setting.

Let me know if this works!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂
