HP OfficeJet Pro 8610
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was having problems with my HP Officejet Pro 8610 detecting and scanning multiple pages at a time from the automatic feeder and I tried to problem solve this. It was connected to my laptop and printing just fine and scanning one page at a time to my laptop.  I did a lot of troubleshooting, which included uninstalling/re-installing the software, checking the printer connection, etc.. As a result of my troubleshooting, My HP Officejet Pro 8610 Printer now won't install the network printer on my laptop.  I continue to get the error message of an unsuccessful network installation. Here are the problem solving steps I have tried:

1. Checked wifi connection through Internet service provider and ran test, re-started router--Internet connected

2. Checked Printer network connection--wifi is on and is connected to my router and accepted my network key

3.  Uninstalled Printer driver and software at HP support and re-installed.

4. Troubleshooted with tech support of my laptop--Updated wireless card  and uninstalled/re-installed the driver.  Did repeat problem solving steps of #3. Tech support stated no problems with laptop. Printer itself is trying to connect to the Internet.

5. Went to HP community and followed the steps of HP administrator given to another HP community member who had the same problem as me. (so now third time I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer driver and software)

6. I also followed through with getting Windows 10 update after seeing message that needed to be updated.

No matter how many troubleshooting steps I take, the step of installing the network printer always fails with the same error after re-starting my computer and trying to install the network printer again. The only thing I haven't tried is to try a USB or ethernet connection. I am out of one of the color inks, but I don't want to invest in another one if I can't get this printer connected. Please help! I don't want to have to buy a new printer.

Hi @AKCleve

I understand that you are unable add your network printer to your computer.

I'd like to help!

Reconnect the printer to the network and then try and add your printer -

  1. From the home screen of your printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon .

  2. Touch the Setup icon .

  3. Touch Restore Network Defaults or Restore Network Settings, and then touch Yes to confirm your selection.

  4. After the default network settings are restored, touch the back arrow, touch Wireless Settings, and then touch Wireless Setup Wizard.

    The printer searches for available networks.

  5. Touch the name of your wireless network.

  6. If your wireless network does not display in the list of wireless networks, touch Enter New Network Name, and then type the name of your wireless network.

    NOTE:

    Type the exact network name, including any uppercase and lowercase letters.

  7. Type the WEP or WPA key (network password), and then touch Done.

    If you do not know your network password, go to Find Your Wireless WEP, WPA, WPA2 Password..

    Once the printer connects to the wireless network, the blue Wireless light on the control panel turns on solid.

 Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

--->In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

--->Select your HP printer.

--->Select Uninstall.

--->In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

--->In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

--->Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

--->Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

--->Click on the Drivers tab.

--->Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

--->Select OK.

--->Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

--->Close Devices and Printers.

And then reinstall the printer full-featured drivers from software and drivers page

If the issue persists, try and add your printer with windows, built-in driver-

Install the built-in print driver over a network connection with Windows 10 or Windows 8.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.

  2. Click Devices and Printers, and then click Add a printer.

    Clicking Add a printer

  3. On the Choose a device or printer to add to this PC window, select your printer, click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver. If your printer is not in the list, continue with these steps.

    Example of printers found in the Choose a device or printer to this PC window

  4. Click The printer I want isn't listed, and then select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.

    Selecting Add a printer using local or network printer with manual settings

  5. Click Next.

  6. Select the port to be used by your printer, such as USB001 for a USB connected printer, and then click Next.

  7. Click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to update.

  8. Click HP, Hewlett-Packard, or Hewlett Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

    • If your printer is in the list, select it, click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.

    • If your printer is not in the list, click the back arrow in the upper left corner of the window two times to return to the Find a printer by other options step, and then continue with these steps.

  9. Select Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname, and then click Next.

    Selecting Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname

  10. Select Autodetect from the Device type drop-down list.

  11. Type your printer IP address into the text box, and then click Next.

    To find the printer IP address, print a Wireless Network Test report or a Network Configuration page.

  12. Wait for the computer to connect to the printer, and then click Next to install the print driver.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
