New HP ENVY 6155E AND DUPLEX PRINTING

But, the issue I am having is that it will not print duplex.  Before I bought this printer, I had worn out an an older HP ENVY with similar advertised capabilities as my new printer including duplex printing.  It worked perfectly (until the printed self-destructed!) using the same laptop and the same win 11 install.  I insalled the new printer, and it prints ok, but the option to duplex print does not come up when I attempt to print from any app on the laptop.

Any ideas/advice will be appreciated

True -- the printer lacks Fax hardware -- I always thought hardware Fax was part of an "All in One".

The printer does not have an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF)  -- this feature is not part of the "All in One" but perhaps worth mentioning to those unfamiliar with the model type.

Moving on...

Duplex Printing is supported various paper sizes and using paper type Plain Paper.

-- Duplex Printing --

• The paper should be loaded according to the instructions in the User Guide.
• The printer needs to be aware of the paper size / type loaded in the printer intake tray - Tray and Paper
• The full driver printer software should be installed to provide access to the full range of Printing Preferences (Standard and Custom Shortcuts, including Duplex).
• Printer Properties > Tab Advanced > Driver should be set to the installed HP driver and not the IPP / Microsoft Drivers.  -- What? --  The IPP / Microsoft drivers do not include access to all the settings.
• Select the options in the printer software or print app to print duplex.

Load Paper / Load Media

Load the paper / envelopes according to the instructions in the user guide:

Next,

Alert the printer the the loaded paper size / type.

Change the paper settings

You can set the correct media size and media type from the control panel.

1. Pull out the input tray.
2. Gently close the input tray.
3. On the control panel Home screen, touch Modify to make the desired changes.
4. Touch Done.

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to view / adjust the paper size / type -- Tray and Paper

• If any updates are applied in Windows Updates, Restart your computer and log in

Next,

Uninstall existing printer software

• Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
• If your printer software includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
• Restart the computer and log in.

Install full driver printer software

• If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

• Download, Save, and Install the software.

Installation of the HP Universal Scan Software adds an "HP Scan" self-named shortcut icon to the Desktop.

If you have installed the full driver printer software,

If the HP Scan that is installed is the "new format" (larger GUI and new layout),

Then

In general, you perhaps do not need to install HP Universal Scan -- the version of HP Scan that installs with the software for this printer is a functional match to the HP Universal Software.

That said, if you can't stand it for any reason, the system will tolerate installing both the full driver and the HP Universal Scan software.

Thanks, Dragon Fur, for the very helpful and detailed reply. 

The driver turned out to be the problem.  Although I used the quick setup recommended in the docs that came with the printer, the generic Microsoft driver was installed.  Downloading the correct driver from HP and installing fixed it.
