You need to download the HP SMART APP from the Apple Store not the Easy Start software on the HP web site.  Easy Start won't work on 15.3

Thanx, I've had it for a while already, and it is working OK. Just not via any other way than through it.

I would like to get scanning possibilities through the top right icon of the printing queue in MacOS.

I'm not sure how the HP smart app allows me to do this ?

I must have missed something...

Sounds like you are trying to install your printer with HP Easy Start and EZ Scan rather than the HP Smart App from the App Store

HP Recommended

No, I've uninstalled everything HP related, then reinstalled HP Smart. Same issue...
The printer was indeed added by itself in the printers prefs (system prefs) but still no scanner icon on the top right... 😕

After you get the printer setup in the hp smart app the link to the scanner is down below in one of the large squares that says printer scanner

Yes this has always worked. So I suppose there's no way to use the scanner without the app like we used to be able to ? Via the icon in the top right corner of the printing queue ?

The MacBook does not have an inbuilt driver for HP LaserJet P1005, any updates on new software for the same ? on Mac OS Sequoia 15.3

HP Recommended

Hi - I too have this problem, and the response from Zoe does not help.  W/hen you add the P1005 printer, the message from Apple is 'software for this printer isn't available from Apple.  Contact the printer's manufacturer for the latest software.  Can you help?

@MandyH1961, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks so much for reaching out – I completely understand how frustrating this can be, especially when your reliable HP LaserJet P1005 suddenly stops working after a macOS update. I know many of us rely on our printers daily, so let's work together to explore possible solutions.

You're absolutely right — macOS 15.3 (Sequoia) currently does not support legacy drivers for the HP LaserJet P1005, and HP has not released an updated driver for this specific model. That said, I’d like to ask a few quick questions to better understand your setup and offer the most accurate workaround:

When you try to add the printer manually through System Settings > Printers & Scanners, is the printer showing up in the list of detected devices?
(Even if no driver installs, knowing this helps us determine if the Mac is communicating with the printer at all.)

Is your HP LaserJet P1005 connected via USB, or are you using a USB-to-C adapter or hub?
(Some USB-C hubs or converters may not support older devices correctly with newer macOS versions.)

Let me know your responses to the above questions, and we’ll take it from there! You’re not alone in this — we’ll do our best to get you printing again.

Warm regards,

Hi. I have used a USBC to USB adapter to link the printer and my Mac detects it ok.  Its the driver (or lack of) that's causing the issues.  My only current workaround is to directly link the printer to an old MacBook Pro that cannot take the latest software so it's still working on High Sierra 10.13.6.  I can then use it via my network.  Not ideal but at least I can continue to use the printer till I can directly connect to my newer Mac
