Hi @JeffH3,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like your HP OfficeJet 5258 All-in-One Printer is having trouble connecting to the internet, which may be causing issues with the HP Instant Ink program. The error messages related to the DNS Server address could mean that there are issues with the network settings on your printer.
Here’s a step-by-step process to help resolve these issues:
Restart Printer and Network Devices
- Turn off the printer, router, and modem.
- Wait for 30 seconds, then turn on the modem and router first.
- After the modem and router are fully operational, turn on the printer and try reconnecting.
Check Wi-Fi Network
- Ensure that your new carrier/modem is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, as most printers, including the HP OfficeJet 5258, prefer connecting to 2.4 GHz over 5 GHz.
- Confirm that your printer is attempting to connect to the correct network.
Manually Set DNS Server
To fix DNS server address errors, you can manually set a reliable DNS like Google's (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare's (1.1.1.1):
- On your printer’s Control Panel, access Wireless Setup:
- Go to Settings > Network Setup or Wireless Settings.
- Select Manual DNS Settings or Advanced Setup.
- Manually enter the DNS server address (e.g., Google's DNS: 8.8.8.8, secondary: 8.8.4.4).
- Save these settings and check if the printer connects to the internet.
Reconfigure Network on Printer
- Go to the Wireless Setup Wizard on your printer’s control panel.
- Follow the prompts to reconnect the printer to your new network.
- If prompted, select Enter New Network Name (SSID) and password.
Check Instant Ink Status
- Once connected, open the HP Smart app or visit Instant Ink online to confirm the printer’s registration with the HP Instant Ink program.
- Ensure that the subscription is active and the printer is properly linked to your account.
Update Firmware
- If the above steps don't resolve the issue, make sure the printer’s firmware is up to date:
- Go to HP Support on a computer, search for your printer model, and download any available updates.
Once the DNS settings and network configuration are correctly set, your printer should connect properly to the internet, resolving the issues with the HP Instant Ink program. If you continue experiencing DNS errors, your internet service provider might need to be contacted to ensure proper network settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
