Hi @Digger777

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like the HP Smart app is stuck during setup, which can be frustrating. Here are some steps to resolve the issue:

1. Restart Everything

  • Power cycle the printer: Turn it off, unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart your computer: A fresh reboot can clear any stuck installation processes.
  • Restart your router: If the printer is connecting via Wi-Fi, a network reset might help.

2. Uninstall & Reinstall HP Smart

  • Uninstall HP Smart from your computer.
  • Download the latest version from HP’s official site.
  • Reinstall and try the setup again.

3. Check Network Compatibility

  • Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4 GHz, as some HP printers have issues with 5 GHz networks.
  • If possible, try connecting via USB instead of Wi-Fi for setup.

4. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP’s support page.
  • Run the tool to diagnose and fix installation issues.

5. Factory Reset the Printer

  • If setup still won’t complete, try a factory reset:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings → Restore Defaults.
    • Restart and attempt setup again.
