My MacBook Air does not give me an option to print in color using my new HP Smart Tank 6001.
It will print in color when I use my iPad or iPhone but gives an option to print in black when trying to print from my laptop.

Hi @TeeJaaGee,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Smart Tank 6001 prints in color from your iPad or iPhone but not from your MacBook Air, this is likely due to driver or settings configuration issues on your Mac. Here's how to resolve this.
Verify Driver Installation
- Update macOS: Ensure your MacBook Air is running the latest version of macOS.
- Go to System Settings > General > Software Update and install any updates.
- Install the Latest HP Drivers: Download and install the latest HP printer driver for the Smart Tank 6001 from the HP support website.
Remove and Re-add the Printer
- Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners (or System Settings > Printers & Scanners on newer macOS versions).
- Select your HP Smart Tank 6001, then click the - button to remove it.
- Re-add the printer by clicking the + button and selecting the Smart Tank 6001 from the list of available printers.
- Ensure you select the correct driver during setup:
- Choose HP Smart Tank 6000 Series if it appears.
- Avoid using the AirPrint driver unless it's your only option.
Adjust Print Settings
- Open the document you want to print.
- Go to File > Print or press Command + P.
- In the print dialog:
- Click Show Details if it’s hidden.
- Look for the Color Options or Quality section (it might be under a dropdown like "Media & Quality" or "Print Settings").
- Ensure Color is selected instead of Black & White or Grayscale.
- Save these settings by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset.
Reset Printing System (if needed)
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click or Control-click in the list of printers and select Reset printing system....
- Re-add your printer and test again.
Test with HP Smart App
- Install the HP Smart app for macOS from the Mac App Store.
- Use the app to print a document and see if the color option appears.
Advanced Troubleshooting
If the problem persists:
- Verify that your printer firmware is updated using the HP Smart app.
- Reset your printer's network settings and reconnect it to your WiFi network.
- Check for any specific color print restrictions in your Mac's settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
