Hi Jay.

 I found a solution just before reading your mail.

I used these instructions from an hp video.

The only thing not listed is that you have to ensure you pull out the usb cable that is connecting the printer with the computer first before following instructions from the video.

Viiola.

My iMac and iPad are both printing.

I have the same issue with the driver not installing on Monterey 12.5 but my printer is a LaserJet P1102 - no wireless option. I have tried the suggestions above but no solution yet.
