HP Envy 4520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Envy printer works fine with my old Win 8 laptop but now I have a new HP Laptop running Win 10.

None of my programs can print in colour (MS Office, Coral Paint Shop Pro etc).

There is NO dialogue box to switch off greyscale.

Have tried some of the fixes here but still not working.

Please help, but don't tell me to deselect the greyscale option there isn't one!

Hi @Grey-Surfer

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you are not able to print in color from your Win 10 PC. Let us try these steps:

This seems like a printer driver compatibility issue. Install the printer driver compatible with Win 7 OS on your Win 10 PC which may resolve this issue.

Clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing in color.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

No followed it to the letter but yet again black printing only.

I would have expected a new HP LAPTOP Model number: 15-dw0xxx with Win 10 would have no problems printing on a HP ENVY printer!!!!

I have tried many of the other solutions but when printing there is NO "print in greyscale" tick box.

My old Win 8 laptop can still print successfully with the same programs to the printer in colour and greyscale.

Thanks for replying!

I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Your last suggestion did not work. Add a device asked for the WPS PIN and then replied " That didn't work try adding HP Envy 4520 again......

Try creating a new user account and install the printer software. Here is how you do it-

1. Tap the Windows icon.

2. Select Settings.

3. Tap Accounts.

4. Select Family & other users.

5. Tap "Add someone else to this PC."

6. Select "I don't have this person's sign-in information."

7. Select "Add a user without a Microsoft account."

8. Enter a username, type the account's password twice, enter a clue and select Next.

9. Tap the Windows icon.

10. Select the User icon at the upper left corner of the Start menu.

11. Select the new user. You'll then sign in to your account with your password from step 8.

Use this link to download and install the new driver. Configure the printer and try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for suggestion. I followed instructions to the letter and set up a new user and then reloaded the Envy 4520 driver from HP Smart App.

It did not work, my HP laptop still can't print in colour on my HP Printer!

Next run the SFC Scan to correct any Windows file errors. Please refer to this Link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-o...

After running the SFC Scan, download the Printer's Full Feature Software again and try printing

If the issue persists I suggest you Reset the Notebook and then download the drivers again

No it didn't work I am no further forward. I was getting rather annoyed so I took a couple of days off! Just tried the SFC scan but got lost looking for DISM.exe see email. But seriously I am an ordinary user not a IT specialist!

To add to the insult I've just been billed for going over my pages limit - not for anything I wanted to print but for all the prints to test all the solutions that have not worked!

I just want my new Win 10 HP Laptop to print in colour on my HP Printer!

The printer still works fine from my old laptop running Win 7.
