Hi @CMS52,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I can understand how frustrating this is after a Windows update; losing options like color printing and duplex feels like your printer suddenly forgot its capabilities. This usually happens because the update resets or replaces the printer driver with a basic one that doesn’t support advanced features.
Step 1: Check Printer Driver
- Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer → Printer Properties → Advanced.
- If the driver says “Microsoft IPP Class Driver” or “Generic”, that’s the issue.
- You need the full HP driver, not the basic Windows one.
Step 2: Install Full Feature HP Driver
- Download from HP: 👉 Official HP® Support
- Select your printer model and install the Full Feature Software and Driver package.
- Restart your PC after installation.
Step 3: Enable Color & Duplex
- After installing the correct driver:
- Go to Printer Properties → Preferences.
- Under Paper/Quality, choose Color.
- Under Finishing, enable Print on Both Sides (Duplex).
Step 4: Update HP App
- Install or update HP Smart for easier control: 👉 HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
