Hi @AKGem
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a couple of issues: your prints not matching the print preview, and the firmware update not working as expected. Let's break this down and go step by step to address both:
1. Print Preview Mismatch
If the print preview is showing something different from what’s being printed, here are some things to check:
a. Check Paper Size and Orientation
- Double-check the paper size and orientation in both the print preview and print settings. If your print settings are set to a different paper size or orientation (portrait vs. landscape), this can cause discrepancies between what you see in the preview and what’s printed.
b. Check Margins and Scaling
- Sometimes, the print settings may have scaling enabled (like “Fit to Page” or “Shrink to Fit”), which can distort the print job, especially for documents or images.
- Make sure the scaling options in your print dialog are set to 100% or Actual Size unless you want it to fit or resize.
c. Printer Settings
- Sometimes, the printer itself has settings that override the print preview. Go to your printer settings (within the printer dialog box when you click "Print") and ensure there aren’t any settings that would affect print quality or output, such as the paper type, quality, or color settings.
d. Software Issues
- Try a Different Application: If you are printing from a specific app (e.g., Word, Adobe Reader), try printing the same document from another program (e.g., Notepad, Preview, or a web browser) to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the issue is related to the app you're printing from.
2. Firmware Update Not Installing
If you're trying to update the firmware and it says "The firmware updater does not contain updates for your device," it might mean that:
a. Firmware Is Already Up to Date
- Check if the printer’s firmware is already up to date by visiting the HP Support website for your printer model and comparing the version listed there with the version on your printer. If the versions match, there’s no need to update.
b. Manual Firmware Update
- Sometimes, the automatic updater doesn’t work correctly. You can try manually downloading and installing the firmware update:
- Go to the HP Support website.
- Enter your printer model number.
- Look for Firmware updates and download the most recent version.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware manually.
c. Firmware Update Error
- If you’re still encountering the error, try the following:
- Reset the Printer: Turn the printer off, unplug it, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and power it on.
- Try a Different USB Cable/Connection: If you're connecting via USB, try using a different cable or port. For wireless connections, ensure that the printer is properly connected to the network.
- Reinstall Printer Drivers: Sometimes, outdated drivers or a mismatch can cause issues with updates. You can try uninstalling and reinstalling the latest printer drivers from the HP website.
I hope this helps.
