Hi @MRMJSR

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels when your OfficeJet Pro 7740 prints a test page perfectly but then stays silent when you send a document from your computer.

Thank you for already performing a hard reset and confirming the printer hardware is fine—that’s an important step. Let’s now focus on the communication path between your computer and the printer.

Step 1: Check Printer Connection

  • On the printer’s control panel, tap Wireless or Network Settings.
  • Print a Network Configuration Page to confirm the printer has a valid IP address (for example, 192.168.x.x).
  • If the IP address is missing or invalid, reconnect the printer to Wi‑Fi using the Wireless Setup Wizard.

Step 2: Access Printer via Browser

  • On your computer, open a browser and type the printer’s IP address in the address bar.
  • If the Embedded Web Server page opens, the printer is visible on the network. If it does not, reconnect the printer to Wi‑Fi.

Step 3: Add Printer by IP Address

  • On Windows, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add Printer.
  • Select The printer I want isn’t listed.
  • Choose Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.
  • Enter the printer’s IP address and complete the wizard.
  • Select the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 PCL‑6 driver if prompted.

Step 4: Clear Print Spooler

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate Print Spooler, right‑click > Stop.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files inside.
  • Return to services.msc, right‑click Print Spooler > Start.
  • This clears any stuck jobs that may block printing.

Step 5: Reinstall with HP App

  • Download the HP App from the Microsoft Store:
    HP App – Microsoft Store
  • Open the app, select Add Printer, and choose your OfficeJet Pro 7740.
  • This ensures the latest drivers and communication settings are applied.

Step 6: Update Firmware

  • Visit the official support page for your printer:
HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Drivers and Firmware
  • Download and install the latest firmware update to improve connectivity and responsiveness.

Since the printer prints its own test page, the hardware is working. The issue lies in how jobs are sent from your computer. Adding the printer by IP address, clearing the spooler, reinstalling through the HP App, and updating firmware should restore smooth printing.
