OfficeJet 3930
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an OfficeJet 3830 connected to a Windows 10 system, and do a fair amount of high resolution scanning for my translation work to get good quality OCR results.

I had an HP Printer/Scanner assistant program that I must have installed ~2 years ago when I bought the new system. That assistan allowed my a number of scanning options (pdf, bmp, jpg, gif, tif, tif, png) and worked well for my purposes.

This morning, it stopped working - gave me a message that it couldn't find my printer even. I could easily print from the system, but could manage the scanner.

Thought maybe there was a newer version of the assistant, so went to the HP web site and installed the inaptly named HP Smart. Most of my scanning options were no longer supported. The installation procedure had required that the previous assistant be uninstalled.

How do I get an assistant that gives me access to my printer's full capabilities?

@Word_Alchemist, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Installing the HP Full-featured driver may resolve this issue.

Uninstall the Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try to print and Scan using the HP printer assistant.

Alternatively, you may also download HP Scan extended application to scan.

Click here to download the same.

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > search windows for HP Scan Extended

Let me know how this goes.
