Microsoft Windows 11

I am trying to get the Scanner running from my OJ 4500 on Windows 11.

Windows 11 settings finds the printer OK in Printers & Scanners and installs it.  But HP Scan and Capture cannot see the Scanner.

So I run HP Smart (interesting name!)  it can see the Printer but always insists it is Off Line despite it being on and  I can send a Test Page to it and Print through Windows Print Queue.

Any ideas?  Do I need to install a specific driver?  It was really hard getting this printer to work with Windows 10 but seems impossible with Win 11.  All my PCs and this printer are HP devices!

I understand that you are unable to scan using HP scan and capture, I am glad to assist you.

This printer is not compatible with Windows 11 operating system, that is the reason it is showing as offline.

Hi,

Restart the computer and printer

Restart the computer and printer to clear any error states.

  1. Press the Power button to turn off the printer.
  2. Close all running programs on your computer, and then restart the computer.
  3. Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the printer back on.

Check the HP Digital Imaging Monitor (Windows)

The HP Digital Imaging Monitor (DIM) software for Windows must be running in order to scan from the printer control panel.

  1. In Windows, search for and open c:\Program Files (x86)\HP\digital imaging\bin.

  2. From the bin folder, find and double-click hpqste08.exe to make sure it is running.

  3. Right-click hpqste08.exe, and then select Create shortcut.

An hpqste08.exe shortcut displays in the bin folder.
  4. Search for and open shell:common startup, and then press Enter to open the Startup window.

  5. Position the Startup window and the bin window side by side.

  6. Click and drag hpqste08.exe shortcut from the bin window, and then drop it into the Startup window.

  7. Restart the computer.

    Troubleshoot the USB printer connection

Uninstall the printer with Device Manager and then reinstall the latest driver from HP to resolve scan connection issues.

    1. Search Windows for and open Device Manager.

    2. Double-click Imaging Devices.

    3. Right-click the HP printer name, and then select Uninstall device to confirm the uninstall.

Uninstall any other instances of the printer in the list.

    4. Double-click Printers, and then uninstall any instances of the printer, if present.

    5. In Windows, search for and open Add or Remove Programs.

    6. In the list of installed programs, click your HP printer name, and then click Uninstall. If your printer name does not display, select HP Smart, and then click Uninstall.

    7. Disconnect the device when prompted during the uninstall process.

    8. Restart the computer.

    9. Go to 123.hp.com to download the latest driver.

    10. Open the downloaded file to start the guided software and driver installation.

NOTE: Do not connect the USB cable until prompted by the installer.
