HP OfficeJet 6962 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

OfficeJet 6962 wont wake from sleep.  Occurs with both network and USB connection.  After entering sleep mode, the power button is very dimly lit, confirming that the printer has power.  After entering sleep mode, the power button and control panel cease to function.  The printer becomes 100% unresponsive.  Only unplugging then restoring power will resolve the issue, but only until it enters sleep mode again.  After plugging it back in, all features including network connection work great, until it enters sleep mode again.  There is no option to disable sleep mode.  All HP software was uninstalled from Windows 10, then reinstalled.  All firmware and drivers are up to date.

Hi @MarkHodges,

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing issues with your HP Printer wherein it does not wake from sleep.

I suggest that you follow the steps listed below to create a manual IP connection:

  1. Print a Network Configuration or Wireless Network Test Results Page, and then use the information on it to connect your printer wirelessly.
  2. Print a Wireless Network Test Results or Network Configuration report.
  3. Most printers with a control panel menu: Open the Wireless or Network Settings menu and select Wireless Network Test.
  4. Most printers without a control panel menu: Press and hold the Wireless button or the Copy button for ten seconds or until the Ready light blinks.
  5. On the printout, find the Wireless Status, IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and URL.
  6. Wireless status: Under 802.11 Wireless, the Status should be Connected. If it is not, your printer is not connected to the wireless network. Connect your printer to the network. For more information, go to Connect to a wireless HP printer.

A Wireless Status of Connected on the Network Configuration Page

IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway: Under 802.11 Wireless, find the printer's IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway numbers. If you see different numbers for IPv4 and IPv6, you only need the IPv4 numbers.

URL(s): Under General Information, find the URL(s) for Embedded Web Server. Your printer might have more than one URL.

7. From a computer connected to the same network as your printer, open an internet browser, type one of the URLs into the address field, and then press Enter to open the printer's EWS. If the EWS does not display, try another browser.

In the EWS, click the Network or Networking tab, open the Wireless menu option, and then click IPv4 Configuration.

8. Select Manual IP, and then provide your printer information.

9. To auto-fill all fields, click Suggest a Manual IP Address, and then make sure the fields for Manual IP Address, Manual Subnet Mask, and Manual Default Gateway match your printer's information on the Network Configuration Page.

10. If Suggest a Manual IP Address is not available, type the information from the Network Configuration Page into the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway fields.

11. Click Apply, and then wait until the changes are confirmed.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
