Similar to the prior questioner from January, I have an "Update Required" message with an unresponsive printer.  There is no way to install any updates as all options have been attempted to no avail.  Please advise on whatever fix is available as my printer is not even 6 months old.  Thank you.

@OonaC

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting the "Update Required" error, follow these steps to fix the issue.

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Update the printer firmware

Here are the steps:- Click here

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

Hi OonaC,

easiest way is to install the firmware by an USB-Flash-Drive. I was successful today after spending hours on google.

  1. Download the firmware
  2. extract the .exe-file (e.g. with 7-Zip), you get one folder and a few single files
  3. take an USB-Flash-Drive and format it to FAT32-filesystem (be careful: all files from the USB-Flash-Drive will be deleted)
  4. copy the extract from step 2 to your USB-Flash-Drive (do not create any folder, just paste it to the USB-Flash-Drive)
  5. unmount the USB-Flash-Drive and remove it from your computer
  6. shutdown the printer and put in the USB-Flash-Drive
  7. turn the printer on
  8. the printer should start the firmware-update automatically

The solution was so easy, I did not think of that to work. I just wonder why no one else tried this earlier and HP support does not mention this.
