Recently, sometime after installing MacOS Ventura 13.1, my OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911A does not print reliably. Sometimes it prints once of twice after cycling power but invariably it returns to a state where a job goes into the queue and just remains there in a state that suggests printing is taking place. I've tried many things, can get scanning (but not printing) to work but only when installing driver software for model 8610. I have consulted the Support site, looked up the latest driver info which mentions HP EasyStart version 2.13.3.221209, dated Dec 9, 2022. I downloaded this but upon unzipping and trying to launch, I receive an error message "HP Easy Start” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software - This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information. So I am stuck here without the ability to try installing what appears to be the newest driver software. Don't know how to get this resolved.

I see that you are facing printing issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911A Printer when printing from Mac computer.
Please follow the steps listed below to reset printing systems and then add the printer.
1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
2. Click Printers & Scanners, Print & Scan, or Print & Fax.
3. Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere inside the Printers window, and then click Reset printing system.
4. Click Reset or OK.
Note: Once you click on reset any other printer added to this computer will also get deleted and needs to be added again.
5. If prompted, type your username and password, and then click OK. The printing system resets.
6. Turn off the printer, wait 5 seconds, and then turn on the printer.
7. Wait until the printer is idle and silent.
8. In the Printers window on the Mac, click the Add button.
9. Select your printer from the list, and then click Add.
It might take a few seconds before your printer displays in the Printers list.

I have this same printer. I can print but have no option to Scan a document from my Mac. This works in MacOS 12.6 Monterey but now with MacOS 13.1 Ventura.
I deleted and re added the printer several times with no success.
Any ideas why the scanner option does not work as it did in previous MacOS versions?

This worked! Both printing and scanning seem to work fine. I was never aware of the "Reset Printing System" function previously - it's kind of well hidden unfortunately. My hope of course is that this fix will hold up over time and the problem will not come right back after a small amount of usage.

This solution DID NOT hold up. With passage of time, the printer tends to go offline and then I need to do some combination of power cycling and repeating the steps in this solution to get printing/scanning to work again. There seems to be some basic print driver issue related to the OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer and MacOS Ventura 13.1. The only fairly reliable workaround I have at the moment is to do all my printing using HPEPRINT server mechanism.
