My OfficeJet Pro 8600 always gave me the option to print two-sided automatically. Now it only gives me a manual flip option. The automatic duplexing unit shows as installed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer device on the computer. I have shut down and restarted the printer. No change. What else can I do?

Hi @Lee6212,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 previously supported automatic two-sided (duplex) printing and now only provides a manual option, here are a few steps to try.
Check Printer Settings in Windows:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 and select Printer Properties.
- Go to the Device Settings tab and ensure the Duplex Unit (for 2-sided printing) is set to Installed. Sometimes, this can reset even if it shows installed initially.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your OfficeJet Pro 8600 model.
- Install the updated drivers, even if they seem up-to-date. This can resolve any driver issues that might be affecting duplex printing.
Check Print Settings Before Printing:
- Open a document and go to Print settings.
- Ensure Two-Sided (Duplex) or Print on Both Sides is selected and that it shows Automatic instead of Manual. Some applications override default settings, so make sure this option is correctly selected.
Disable Any Conflicting Print Settings:
- Occasionally, software conflicts or specific print settings might interfere with duplex printing. Check if there are any advanced settings like "Print on one side only" that could override the duplex feature.
Try Printing from Another Application:
- If possible, test duplex printing from a different application to rule out application-specific issues.
Firmware Update on the Printer:
- Ensure your printer has the latest firmware. You can check for updates directly on the printer's control panel or by visiting the HP Support website.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
