Hi guys. My printer is long out of warranty, but it has hardly been used and kept in good condition (ie: nothing on top of it, dusted regularly, etc.). I don't have to use it much at all, but I needed to use it today and when I turned it on, the printer said "There is a problem with the printerhead" and nothing else. It worked just fine a few months ago, last time I used it.

I tried https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04100778  which included resetting the printer, restoring factory defaults, removing all the cartridges, cleaning them, and updating the firmware and trying it all again. I tried all of the Setup options (clean printhead, align printhead, clean paper smears). I even tried some of the new ink cartridges I bought. Always same error, "There is a problem with the printhead".

I can't open a Case # because my printer is out of warranty. Is there any way to reach Customer Support or open a support ticket, or should I just buy a new printer?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

If the message appears, the printhead is defective, nothing else can be done unless the printhead is changed.

Since it's long out of warranty, it's probably worthwhile to get a new printer.

Would suggest that if the printer (or scanning needs) are minimal, get a simple printer like the HP Deskjet plus 4100 series or the HP Deskjet 2700 series printer.  These uses "disposable" print cartridges.
