I was on a call with Microsoft for over 3 hours trying to diagnose why the OffieceJet Pro 8715. Using either HP Smart and the native discover printer method produces the same results. The printer would install using the "HP Smart Universal Printing" driver. When a job is sent the printer will initialize and position the print head. Then nothing comes out of the printer. And then the head will dock in a few minutes. The print queue shows the job is sent to printer. This is not an network issues, port issue, etc. This is something with the Universal driver that HP provides that isn't working in Windows 11 ARM for this printer. By the way there are other that are seeing this. I checked Reddit and other Windows sites and others are reporting the same behavior with their printers.

In Windows 11 2024 Update 24H2 it seems that Microsoft introduced "Protected Print Mode" that now installs the correct driver (Mopria/IPP) that allows the OfficeJet Pro 8710/8715 to at least print. This printer has always been on the list, but Windows or HP never installed the right printer / driver combinations to make it work.
Today I deleted all my printers from my ARM version of Windows 11 and went to:
Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printer & scanners and selected "Set Up" for Windows protected print mode.
My printer was discovered and installed. I made it the default printer and did a test page, and it printed fine. I did have to go into Printer properties to setup two-sided printing.
So far it is working fine.

I have the exact same issue with my Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x, Windows 11 on Arm and OfficeJet Pro 9022e.
How embarrassing for HP! HP also has Snapdragon laptops in their portfolio. I was also just on the call with HP support, they tried to install HP easy start, but did not finish due to an error message (plug and play driver).
HP or Windows needs to fix this now.
EDIT: I just found a workaround. I can print when directly connecting to the printer.(DIRECT-71…) The printer pop up window also loads instant, not like the slow HPsmart printer options screens.

If you have an ARM based computer your only choice is to use the HP Smart Universal Printer Driver which offers an ARM compatible version of the driver. I suggest trying it even if your printer is not on the compatibility list.
